GTFWC: Promoting Friendship, Scholarship, and Service since 1921

Continuing and broadening this tradition, GTFWC programs and interest groups exist today to promote friendships and learning opportunities for ALL women who share a love of Georgia Tech and a common purpose of Friendship, Scholarship, and Service.

Community Service projects each year give the GTFWC members the opportunity to serve Georgia Tech and the greater Atlanta community. Members have volunteered at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Trees Atlanta, MedShare, Paws Atlanta, the Pajama Program, Habitat for Humanity, Books for Africa, Park Pride, Open Hand, the Atlanta Children’s Shelter, Tech Beautification Day, and more!

Supporting friendship and goodwill among the Georgia Tech community includes the support of scholarship and education. GTFWC proudly supports qualified Georgia Tech students with a parent or guardian employed at Georgia Tech through the GTFWC Scholarship Program. Since 1990, almost 200 scholarships have been awarded–totaling over $200,000!

The GTFWC was first organized as the “The Tech Woman’s Club” on February 18, 1921 at a luncheon given by Belle Fleet Matheson, the wife of Georgia Tech President Kenneth G. Matheson. The club’s purpose was to foster wider acquaintances among the wives of Georgia Tech academic faculty members and to provide a focus for social activities.
